| Built of steel by Astilleros de Mallorca to an Arthur
Holgate design, the yacht was christened Jessica
by her original Argentine owner. One of the largest
sailing yachts built since the 1930s, this three-masted
topsail schooner was once owned by 1983 America's Cup
winner Alan Bond of Australia, who renamed the boat XXXX,
after his brewery. Sold again in 1990 to a Spanish banker, the yacht was gutted and refit in England under the direction of Paul Goss, her Tasmanian captain. Goss attempted a transatlantic record over Atlantic's course in 1995, but was becalmed a few days out from The Lizard. |

| This recreation of the 1903 schooner Heartsease survived a mid-construction fire at Pendennis Shipyard in 1994 but went on to win the 1996 Showboats (magazine) Award for Best Sailing Yacht over 36 Metres. Gerard Dijkstra followed original lines, adjusting for modern conveniences and, at the urging of owner George Lindeman, increased performace. While she looks every inch a classic, her underbody has rounder bilges and a fin keel. Her elegant Edwardian interior in gleaming mahogany and white enamel features several tons of original Heartsease wood and lovely period hardware. Captained by the man who rebuilt her, Steve Carson, the boat sets a sky full of sail and manages 14 to 18 knots. | ![]() |
